Will On-Live change gaming?

The pie in the sky concept of On-Live, which I first heard about last E3 , will launch in the 48 contiguous US states on June 17, 2010.This service which I thought to be vaporware, allows you to play the most graphic intensive games on the market with absolutely no hardware or console needed. The games are reported to play on the cloud with the ability to stream on your TV at 1080p at 60 frames-per-second. They are claiming the lowest-end server resource offers twice the GPU performance of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The service will initially be available to PC and Mac owners for a monthly service fee of $14.95.

If this service takes off, it could radically change the market to one that is going to digital very quickly and this requires no hardware purchases. Sorry big box stores.

I remain skeptical if this service will work well, but curious of this promised tech. Fortunately, I am one of the first 25,000 people OnLive is going to waive the first three months of  fees. For this to have a chance, I will scrutinize any latency issues that may arise.
