Steam coming to Mac in April

Exciting news. Steam, the best implementation of  game community on a pc is coming to mac. It has achievements, smoking weekly deals and a pretty cool standalone client. The best part is, you purchase one game license and you can play it on both pc or mac for no extra charge. “For example, Steam Play, in combination with the Steam Cloud, allows a gamer playing on their work PC to go home and pick up playing the same game at the same point on their home Mac.” Valve will be releasing some of their library to mac at launch and moving forward all Valve titles will have a pc, mac & 360 simultaneous release! This is the best news in a long time for the suffering Mac gamer.

Steam has really been the best defense on rampant pirating happening on PCs. Strict DRM employed by EA and Ubisoft, only make people more entitled to steal. This is how you do it. Create a great community and marketplace with reasonable prices. This is similiar to what iTunes has done for the pirated music issue.

So I don’t have to boot  to windows to check out Steam. To show my gratitude I will buy Portal, which is still in my pile of shame. Glad I held off on the hard drive filling XBLA version. Unfortunately, I doubt this will get me back into pc gaming.
